SERMON NOTES
240324 - “In His Grip” 3.0 … Food
“Man does not live by bread alone, but on every
word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matt 4:4)
“I am the vine, and you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I
in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone
does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such
branches are picked up, thrown into the fire, and burned.” (John 15:4-6)
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation – the
old has gone, the new has come.” (2 Cor 5:17)
“One you were alienated from God and
were enemies in your minds [ … interesting … ] because of your evil
behavior. But now he has reconciled you [past tense] by Christ’s physical
body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and
free from accusation if you continue in your faith, established and firm,
not moved from the hope held out in the gospel.” (Col 1:21-23)
“Like newborn babies, crave pure
spiritual milk, so that you may grow up in your salvation.” (1 Peter 2:2)
“Brothers, I could not
address you as spiritual but as worldly – mere infants in Christ. I gave you
milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. You are still
worldly, for since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not
worldly?” (1 Cor 3:1-3)
“Though by this time you ought to be teachers (i.e.,
informed, filled, healthy, able to feed others) you need someone to teach
you the elementary truths of God’s Word all over again. You need milk,
not solid food. [that’s what you feed starvelings … ] Anyone who lives on
milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about
righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have
trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” (Heb 5:12-14)
“Man does not live by bread alone,
but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matt 4:4)
For too long we’ve called people to “invite Jesus into your life”. Jesus
doesn’t want to be in your life – your life’s a wreck. He calls you into His life,
and His life isn’t boring or static or purposeless. It’s full.” (Russell Moore)
“I have come that they may have life, (i.e., zoe) and have it
to the full.” (John 10:10) “If you hold to my teaching, then you are really my
disciples – then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John
8:31-32)
EAT WELL … “Man does not live by bread alone, but on every word that
comes from the mouth of God.” (Matt 4:4)
CHEW YOUR FOOD … “He who seeks, finds.” (Matt 7:8)
